An Intergenerational Perspective

I want to be part of a movement that can imagine a world decades and centuries from now that protects human rights for all people. A world which maintains an enduring and just homeostasis within the natural limits of the planet.

For those of us alive in the 21st century, stabilizing the climate and preserving our Earth—all while defending human rights—must become the focal point of our lives and our economic, social, and political efforts.

We need a new relationship with each other and with the planet. 

Centuries ago, architects were able to plan cathedrals that future generations of humans would only be able to enjoy. The architects knew they would never see their works completed; but they did not hesitate to start an intergenerational project—and plan for centuries ahead—so that future humans could reap the benefits of a process started many centuries in the past.

Today, the cathedrals we have to build are the institutions, processes, governments, and values that will preserve human dignity and maintain a habitable planet for the centuries ahead.
